The most important aspect of the job search besides the the resume is the various types of cover letters that can be created, namely a resume cover letter or employment cover letter.  The cover letter allows a job resume to have yet another aspect that will allow it to shine in the eyes of the employers.  Take the following resume tips into consideration while organizing your cover letters.

Cover Letter Page Set-up:

In setting up the page of the cover letter, I would recommend following the guidelines above under the title of “Resume Page Set-up.”

One alteration to the “Resume Page Set-up” process is that I would indent every first sentence of every paragraph of the cover letter using the following steps:

  1. Indent the first line of a paragraph by highlighting the entire paragraph,
  2. On the menu bar select Format,
  3. Click on Paragraph,
  4. In the window that opens select the Indents and Spacing tab and
    1. Under the section titled, “Indentation, ” select the drop down box under “Special:” and click on “First line” then
    2. Under “By:” click the up arrow to 0.5” for the amount of indent.

The other alterations to the “Resume Page Set-up” process are that I would not use the “justify” text alignment feature and I would not use the hyphenation feature.  I like the visual effect of sentences ending at different points on the page rather than all aligned to the right-hand margin and the fact that words will not be broken-up with hyphens.

The set-up instructions for the resume also include a recommendation for placing the title of the job that you are seeking in the header.  Placement of the job title in the header is an optional approach.  I like this tactic as it avoids having to waste space in the letter identifying the open position that was advertised or identifying the position that you would like to fill.

By making your cover letter and resume more organized and eye appealing, it certainly will be able to serve its purpose as effectively as you planned it to.  The likelihood of a structured interview will be enhanced by allowing your resume to shine.
